This makes lots of sense from a journalistic angle! A modest suggestion - a weekly discussion thread in the style of AstralCodexTen, where people can discuss interesting ideas, post new papers, etc.
One thing I feel the bio community is sorely missing is a central hub for exchange of ideas, and blogs like yours can serve as this kind of schelling point.
Terribly sorry to see this newsletter end, it's taken so much work off my (starting PI) shoulders. Just to mention, it's been so useful that I would be happy to pay for it. Have you considered options to make this work in the future without killing all your free time? E.g. founding / affiliating with a scientific society that distributes the newsletter for paying members? In any case, best of luck for your future endeavors; I'll continue with the essays as well.
